Due to the severity of this heatwave—which has reached disaster-level intensity—heat alerts have been issued for 39 prefectures nationwide.
Summer is coming, and the weather will be very hot! Sometimes, there will be rain. The temperature may reach almost 30°C. Stay cool and drink plenty of water!
Weather experts say that starting tonight, there will be lots of rain in central and eastern Japan, with possible warnings. On Saturday, rain clouds will move north, and places from Okinawa to Kanto will see more rain. Some areas might get very heavy rain, over 50mm per hour!
By Sunday, after the rain stops, strong winds may blow dust into the air. Stay safe and keep an umbrella ready!
The previous morning, May 3, numerous residents in the Tsugaru region—including Hirosaki City and Tsugaru City in Aomori Prefecture—reported hearing mysterious “earth sounds” on social media. However, the Aomori Meteorological Office confirmed that no seismic or volcanic activity was recorded.
Today, Roasterpig and Cloudiecandy bring you a one-month weather forecast. According to meteorological agencies, the first half of May will see frequent rainy weather in Hokkaido and the Tohoku region. Western and Eastern Japan will have more sunny days, but the second week (May 10–16) is expected to have fewer sunny days than average. Okinawa, Amami, and surrounding areas are about to enter the rainy season, meaning more cloudy and rainy days. From the second week onward, the national average temperature is expected to reach normal or higher levels, while precipitation in regions from Eastern Japan to Kyushu will be lower than usual.

However, the real challenge is coming! 🌨️ The weather experts say that between the 27th and 28th, it might rain across the country. In northern Hokkaido, there’s even a chance of snow! ❄️ Stay safe and prepared! 🌸✨
The sun will stay bright today. The highest temperatures will be: Sapporo 11°C, Tokyo 17°C, Nagoya 18°C, Osaka 17°C, and Fukuoka 20°C. Western and eastern Japan will stay sunny and warm next week. Spring is in the air!
🚨 Snow Forecast Update 🚨
Sapporo City: 46 cm of snow in the last 12 hours.
Daisen-cho: 26 cm of snowfall.
Fujiwara-cho: 24 cm of snow.
Aomori City: Nearly 5 meters of snow accumulation.
Snowfall expected to continue on the Sea of Japan side through Saturday, the 22nd.
A low-pressure system forming on the 17th will bring cold air below -39℃ into northern Japan, creating strong wintry conditions. Heavy snow is expected in northern to western Japan, especially along the Sea of Japan coast. Even eastern Japan’s Pacific side will see significant snowfall, mainly inland. Heavy snow warnings are in effect for several regions, including Nagano, Gunma, Tochigi, Aomori, Niigata, Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Gifu, Shiga, and Tottori.
Starting around February 19, regions including Hokuriku, Kanto, Tokai, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu, Amami, and Okinawa will experience "significantly cold" temperatures for the next five days. Additionally, parts of the Tohoku region, Hokuriku, the Japan Sea side of the Kinki region, Sanin, northern Nagano, northern Gunma, and mountainous areas of Gifu will face "significant heavy snow" with snowfall rates 1.8 to 3.1 times higher than usual.
On the bright side, the mercury's gonna climb above 10°C in Sendai and Kanazawa on Saturday and Sunday. And in central Tokyo, it's gonna start feeling like March from Wednesday, with a balmy 15°C by Saturday. From Nagoya to Fukuoka, we're gonna see more days above 10°C this weekend, so the big chill should ease up a bit.
But with the warmer weather, we gotta watch out for some melty mayhem. Even in the snow-heavy Tohoku and Hokuriku regions, the rain on Wednesday is gonna melt that powder, so keep an eye out for avalanches, roof collapses, and flooded roads. And for you hayfever folks in Tokyo and Shizuoka, get ready for that pollen to start spreading like wildfire.
Looks like Sapporo's gonna be a real icebox on Monday and Tuesday, with highs below 0°C. Sendai and Kanazawa won't crack 5°C either. Tokyo might hit 10°C, but that northerly wind's gonna be a real bone-chiller. And from Nagoya to Fukuoka, 10°C might be a stretch, so it seems we're headed back to the depths of winter's icy grip.
The festival kicked off on February 4th and is spread across three locations in Sapporo: Odori Park, Tsudome, and Susukino.
