Japan's Temperature Tango: From Toasty to Teeth-Chattering in No Time Flat
Mates, it looks like the temps in the heart of Tokyo and other parts of Japan are gonna be as warm as March this week. But don't get too excited, it seems we're not quite out of the winter chill just yet. Brace yourselves, because next week that icy cold air is gonna come back down south, bringing some heavy snow and freezing temps.

On the bright side, the mercury's gonna climb above 10°C in Sendai and Kanazawa on Saturday and Sunday. And in central Tokyo, it's gonna start feeling like March from Wednesday, with a balmy 15°C by Saturday. From Nagoya to Fukuoka, we're gonna see more days above 10°C this weekend, so the big chill should ease up a bit.

But with the warmer weather, we gotta watch out for some melty mayhem. Even in the snow-heavy Tohoku and Hokuriku regions, the rain on Wednesday is gonna melt that powder, so keep an eye out for avalanches, roof collapses, and flooded roads. And for you hayfever folks in Tokyo and Shizuoka, get ready for that pollen to start spreading like wildfire.

Looks like Sapporo's gonna be a real icebox on Monday and Tuesday, with highs below 0°C. Sendai and Kanazawa won't crack 5°C either. Tokyo might hit 10°C, but that northerly wind's gonna be a real bone-chiller. And from Nagoya to Fukuoka, 10°C might be a stretch, so it seems we're headed back to the depths of winter's icy grip.

Japan is experiencing a winter wonderland with record snowfall. Rainfall on the 6th was followed by a strong cold wave on the 7th, and heavy snowfall warnings for the 9th. Hokkaido, Tohoku, and Hokuriku regions saw snowfall 1.5 to 3 times the usual amount. Aomori and Hirosaki recorded 114 cm of snow, the highest January snowfall since 1982. The Pacific coast also experienced light snow, making it a picturesque winter destination.

New Year, New Stars: Watch the Quadrantids Meteor Shower 2025
Get ready for a dazzling show in the sky! The Quadrantids meteor shower is here to light up your New Year.

Tonight, the Quadrantids meteor shower will peak around midnight ( from January 3rd, to early morning, January 4th). In Japan, the best viewing time is expected to be tomorrow morning when the radiant point rises, with about 30 meteors per hour in dark areas.

Today's Weather

Areas along the Sea of Japan will likely have clouds, making meteor observation difficult. The Pacific side of Kanto and southern Tohoku may also see increasing clouds after evening, but they might clear by dawn.

Okinawa and Amami will likely have cloudy skies due to humid air. However, the Pacific side of eastern Hokkaido and areas west of Tokai will be mostly clear, making them ideal for meteor watching.
